As a newcomer to this mode I'm pleased to report that I now have successfully RXed and beacon TXed on 30m using WSPR and my signal is being reported from around Europe (no further yet!). At the moment I am using QRO (5W) into my 28MHz wire halo (via an ATU) which is not an effective 30m antenna, HI.

WSPR would be very useful on 10m as an indicator of marginal openings.

In the last few weeks I have operated from some places in France using my call and giving the QRA Locator of the spot.
So no I haven't lost my marbles and been giving wrong Locs.
Unfortunately WSPR does not send the full Locator or accept F/G3ZJO so often it appears that I did not move.

Some recent comments have been made regarding false info, I tend to agree that the whole system could be improved, as it is being slowly. At least reports of spots into the future are no longer accepted.

This this is my first day on WSPR, RX only (for the moment)
So I've been having a listen around the bands.

I've got a question, how can I check the accuracy of my RX/TX frequency ?

Thinking out loud , next week there is a very big meteor shower (Perseid), with some long bursts, It could be an idea have a 'play' on the high bands. The peak is on the morning of the 12th August, But it will be active a few days before and after.

During the last few days, I have been experimenting on 30 meters with output powers as low as 20 microwatts. No one has spotted my 20 microwatt signal yet, but K8CXM has spotted my 50 microwatt signal at a distance of 553 KM at 2332UTC, 05 AUG 09.

A 100 mW beacon with a step attenuator to an indoor doublet was used for all the tests. All equipment is homebrew and the output power is verified with a HP-432A Power Meter. If you look in the database the power is reported as 0.100 watt because it was too difficult to pull out and reprogram the beacon’s PIC controller chip for each change of power. In any case, there are no provisions to report power levels below 1 milliwatt to the WSPR database.

I noticed on my pc a few days ago that I was running out of hard disk space despite the fact that I had not installed or saved anything large recently. I tracked the problem back to the folder where I keep the WSPR program.

The problem turned out to be that under the SAVE tag, the option SAVE ALL was selected rather than SAVE NONE. As a result, I had saved 8,300 .wmv audio files @2.3 MB each which took up 21.3 GB!

I have been running +37dBm to a G5RV @ 10M high. I have now dropped my output power to +33dBm and will be running this for the next 24 hours on 30M. Brad WF7T

Whisper with ATS-3b.

I implemented WSPR beacon transmit mode into ATS3bv-1.5 firmware. It is not the very first standalone WSPR beacon implementation, but it is the first WSPR beacon implementation for a stock
transceiver or transceiver kit. For those not familiar with Steve Weber KD1JV ATS-3b creation, it is a tiny 6 band CW/digital transceiver kit fitting into the Altoids tin.

To get your ATS-3b rolling with WSPR, you will need to download ATS3bv-1.5 firmware, replace
beacon messages in the firmware with yours and flash your transceiver with the modified firmware. The beacon messages are generated by wsprgen application. wsprgen is a tiny windows application based on Mark VandeWettering's genwspr Python script.

I am just getting started with WSPR after reading about it in Radcom (journal of RSGB). I have receive only working at the moment using my FT-817 and SGC-2020. I will experiment with the different bands and see how I get on.

The 17m 3ele co-linear with ribbon feed for multiband operation was a disaster and the RG174 I used rather than RG58 for part of the radiator (because I had it and it's low-profile) stretched (!). So I cut out the coax sections and spliced the wire - Now resonant on about 11.5 MHz with 10.4m 300 ohm ribbon, then coax to shack. Covers 80-6m with tuner, 10 and 60 without. Seems to be quite alive with signals. losses appear fairly low on all but 12 and 80m. Will try day-about bands for a while, then re-trim to resonance at 10.14 and try again.

I finally bit the bullet and applied for a new callsign - N6TTO, my call for more than 20 years, was a handful on CW and voice - takes awhile to say! So I opted for a shorter call - both in CW and phonetics!

N6TTO is now K6TU.

I was testing today with 0,5W on 20m. After been spotted bij VK0 I was spotted by ZL2IFB. Unfortenatly my RX is not so good in the evening on 20m. Lots of noise here at the moment. Still very surprised by the results using WSPR just a few days.
I will be on 0,1W testing tomorrow on 20m.

After reading my friends blog,PE4BAS,i also wanted to try out WSPR.
First try out was yesterday and it was really nice.
Got W1XP here and he also did read me with 1watt output on 20M.

Nice program and nice way to find out in what area the propagation is.
