WSPR with K3 - not changing rig frequency

I have a K3, and have been having problems getting it to control my rig frequency from the WSPR dropdown menu. I have tried various settings of com port and baud rate (all mirrored in WSPR), deleting and rebuilding the WSPR.INI file, and both a USB and hardware (PCI card) serial port. Drivers are updated for the serial port drivers, and all permissions seem to be set correctly where they need to be. Rig control works with the K3 Utility, N1MM, and HRD. The system is:

Rig: K3
Computer: Homebrew Quad Core with Asus MB, and aftermarket PCI serial port card
Straight through serial cable, DB-9 to DB-9.

When invoking any change in WSPR for frequency, the command prompt window shows the following message:
kenwood: _init called
rig_register (213)

Any help much appreciated. I am at my wits end.
