Callsign format

The question was recently asked what to put for callsign when operating at a different location. I don't know the answer to that. However it is not possible to use suffixes like /A or /P and certainly not country prefixes like EA8/LA3JJ.

WSPR encodes the call into as few a bits as possible, however in doing this no provision has been made for using anything other than your home call. According to my analysis of the source code, the allowable format of the callsign is:

1. Optional letter or number
2. Letter
3. Number
4-6. Up to 3 letters.

Anything other than this may result in an invalid call being decoded as the software does not strictly validate that the call entered adheres to this format.
