WSPR via SUWS Farnham WEBSDR - IO91OF

Hi All,

We have now upgraded the SUWS WEB SDR located near Farnham to extend LF coverage down to 5KHz and have also changed and re-located the antenna.

http://websdr.suws.org.uk/

This has generally lowered the SDR noise floor by approximately 10dB, but unfortunately there is still a lot of interference from other equipment on the site, especially on 136KHz and 472KHz.

We also used the opportunity to add 6m coverage from 49.99 MHz - 51.99 MHz.

The RX on 6m is currently using temporary vertical whip antenna at 3m AGL. So the performance is not as good as it could be, again this is mainly due to interference from other equipment on the site.

However it is still useful as a quick check for activity on the band, and this morning I have already heard several CW and SSB stations working DX and copied some WSPR stations.

The 6m frequency coverage also includes the BRAMS CW radar on 49.97MHz and IEPR CW radar on 49.99MHz as indicators of meteor activity (in addition to Graves on 143.050MHz).

As well as listening to other stations, the SUWS WEB SDR is a useful resource for monitoring your own WSPR signals and conducting various antenna performance tests.

We hope to further improve the performance on the LF and 6m amateur bands at some stage in the future.
