Old database (fatal) error?

There appears to be a major drama with the old database search parameters.

The old database search page is here: http://wsprnet.org/olddb

If you leave "Search for call:" empty but at the same time tick the "Find unique calls" checkbox, then submit the search request, the database hangs.

Likewise if you leave "Show spots heard by:" empty but at the same time tick the "Find unique reporters" checkbox, then submit the search request, the database hangs.

It's pretty obvious that those are not appropriate choices but there is no internal logic to prevent it happening.

The real problem is that when it does happen it appears to hang the whole of WSPRnet's database operations which include loading the map page, loading the new database page and loading the old database page.

The failed database query eventually times out and everything works again but anyone using the site for anything involving the database is going to experience hitting a brick wall.

I set up a test involving three different browsers, browser 1 initiated the illegal query on the old database while browsers 2 and 3 tried to load the map and the new database page and all three hung until the timeout occurred.

Perhaps someone else would like to check it out to see if the problem can be duplicated, otherwise it may be something I've overlooked this end and apologies in advance if that is the case, but if it is an error then the long hang period is most unfortunate; perhaps someone knows whether it's been reported already?
