I know my ten milliwatt transmitter station is something less than 10mW. Taking into consideration all of the losses between the transmitter and the antenna, I still have enough milliwatts to be copied by several stations at greater than 1000 km. Not bad for a hap-hazard setup, I told myself. Some of the stations report received signal strengths that appear to make 1mW possible, almost. Maybe if I get rid of the wattmeter and buy a new length of coax just long enough.
Is it really worth the time, money and effort? Can you really send a 1mW, 40m signal over 1000 km and get good copy?
