11 year of WSPR data - WSPR Licensing

HI everyone,

My name is Sam, I am a PhD student who is investigating the greyline/grayline propagation between the United Kingdom (UK) and New Zealand (NZ). The plots attached in this topic is the bar histogram plots from 1. Links from the UK transmitter callsigns to any WSPR radio receivers 2. Links from the UK receiver callsigns receiving WSPR signals from any WSPR radio transmitters, 3. Links from the NZ transmitter callsigns to any WSPR radio receivers and 4. Links from the NZ receiver callsigns receiving WSPR signals from any WSPR radio transmitters.

Each plot has a solar cycle trend recorded in terms of the sunspot numbers referenced from SILSO Observatory in this link: http://sidc.be/silso/datafiles. From the plots I see that there is a significant increase of links from the year 2016. I wonder that is there a change in the licensing terms and conditions for the WSPR amateur radio which increases the interest of using WSPR from the amateur radio hobbyists? If so, is there a document/article which will give a clear reference to the change of WSPR ? I am writing a thesis at the moment, and having an article which gives this information will be very useful on writing my methods chapter as well as the results chapters.

If anyone is interested to see the links only between the UK and NZ with a reference on the solar sunspot number, please let me know.

Thank you for your help.

Sam
