The Weak Signal Propagation Reporter Network is a group of amateur radio operators using K1JT's MEPT_JT digital mode to probe radio frequency propagation conditions using very low power (QRP/QRPp) transmissions. I changed my WSPR Software from Visual WSPR v3.7 to WSJT-X v1.9.1

During band hopping (160/80/40/30/20m) the short tx-tune (pretune) function for the next receive band works fine and tunes my ATU nicely.

However, when comming from a transmit cycle (say 40m) and hopping to a receive cycle (say 20m) no or a very short tx-tune happens!? It seems there is no power output in this case - so my ATU will not tune.

This week traveling in France and on air with Ultimate 3S and 10m long end fed antenna. Temporary call is F/PE1RTK.

This week i will have a RX only setup QRV band hopping on the 40-30-20-17-15-12-10-meterband. Gear is a folded dipole at 40 meters ASL in Rotterdam. RX is an Icom IC-703, USB-III from Microham and a Mac Air by Apple. Just a test to see if it fill any needs, if so maybe i wil build a permanent situation.

Alaska’s super-power High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) transmitters in Gakona, Alaska, will take advantage of the WSPR digital protocol and the Weak Signal Propagation Reporter Network (WSPRnet) during a short experimental campaign, July 30 through August 1. University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Space Physics Group researcher and HAARP Chief Scientist Chris Fallen, KL3WX, told ARRL that he’ll be conducting research into ionospheric irregularities, but hardly with a weak signal.

Another solution would be to use N0TTL's free GridTracker ( in combination with WJST-X. Both offline and online mapping is provided along with a lot of other things. GridTracker supports all modes that WJST-X does as well as interfacing to various logging programs. I use it for WSPR data analysis since it saves CSV data and plots for you in real-time. Then I can use KP4MD's excellent spreadsheet tool for mode comparisons, etc. GridTracker is a great for working in the field when you don't have internet connectivity.

I finally made my first TX in Italy. I was able to upgrade to Amateur Extra in June, so I can finally TX while I'm here for a few more months. First attempt is with WSPR to try and adjust TX audio level on my SignaLink USB into the FT-817. I'm getting a couple of bars of ALC transmitting at 1W. Using an end fed 20m sloped from my balcony to the corner of our lot in a NW direction I'm tx'ing as I/KB0VER per the CEPT and Italian rules. I'm getting into most of NE Europe including Iceland, Spain, The Canary Islands, and the East Coast of the U.S..

As a follow up to my WSPR receiver I have just released my standalone all band WSPR transmitter with built in GPS for the radio amateur experimenter.
It is built to be both simple to use and to be a platform to be expanded from for the experimenter.
Some quick features:
1 Standalone operation, no PC required for operation.
2 Works on any Ham band from 136kHz to 70MHz
3 Is powered from 5V.
4 Pre-built and tested except for the output Low Pass filter that needs to be built by the user.

A few hours today spotting stations on 17m. It must be 40m band sorry 73

Trying to get the QCX-30 to be seen, but need to improve my antenna.

Antenna system now has 32-10 meter radials buried about 2 inches below the surface.

We have upgraded the WSPRlite firmware to support Type 2 and 3 WSPR messages (compound callsign and six character grid). This upgrade, together with the ability to run a WSPRlite from an Android phone makes it a handy package for a little holiday WSPRing. In this configuration, the WSPRlite gets its grid and timing from the phone (internet connectivity needed). It can also be powered from the phone!

Yesterday I started changing from RedPitaya DEBIAN Linux system (Pavel) to his new ALPINE based system.
Main reason is that with the last Debian WSPR release an incorrect shutdown always leads to a file crash killing the complete SD image.
So I always had a back-up SD cart prepared.

Firstly it seems to be easy to change but I have a 5W PA from QRP labs and a 5 band filter bank. All switching is done by the RedPit GPIO and a relais board from QRP LABS. And here was the problem since the CRON tab is handled in a different way.

Just upgraded the tall vertical from 11 Meters to 14 Meters. Currently operating with 8-4.5 Meter radials and 8-10M radials.

Next improvement will be to extend the 4.5 Meter radials to 10 meters, for a total of 16 10 Meter radials.
